Margari-TEA
An elevated Stratton cocktail you can make at home.
A margarita is a globally recognised cocktail. But how can you enhance a margarita to *something special* at home? Add some brewed herbal tea to create a Margari-TEA of course!
We recommend hibiscus tea, as the fruity profile goes hand-in-hand with the agave spirit.
A great option to try is the Egyptian Hibiscus Tea from Tour de Tea (available from their shop in New Farm, or online: www.tourdetea.com.au).
The great thing about a margarita is its versatility: it’s served in so many ways around the world to accommodate for different climates or preferences. You can serve it like a Tommy’s margarita on ice cubes; as a frozen margarita; or stick to the classic way as this recipe suggests – shaken, double strained, and with a salted rim.
MARGARI-TEA RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
45ml of tequila
15ml Triple Sec or Cointreau (if you don’t want to buy a whole bottle, use 15ml orange juice instead and bump the tequila to 60ml!)
15ml fresh lime juice
15ml sugar syrup (just dissolve 1 cup of sugar in 1 cup of water to make it. Bam! Super easy)
45ml of your desired tea (we recommend a tea that complements the tequila, such as the Egyptian Hibiscus tea, or something fruity, or floral, or with bold flavour notes. Steer clear of English Breakfast, it doesn’t work... trust us on that)
Salt and a slice of lime for the glass rim
METHOD
The best glass for a Margi is a martini style glass like the one above, but you can use any
Firstly, you want to get your tea brewing! Get that to your desired strength level and give it time to cool.
Next, shake a good amount of salt onto a plate. To rim your glass, wipe your slice of lime around the glass rim, then simply dab the rim into the salt and bam! Salty goodness.
You can get the salt all around, or if you’re unsure just do half - it’s your cocktail!
Add your measurements of tequila, Triple Sec or Cointreau, lime juice and sugar syrup into a cocktail shaker.
Add your freshly brewed tea, then fill the shaker up with ice.
Whack on a lid and shake away! Once shaken for about 15 seconds, grab a regular strainer and a fine strainer, then fill your glass. The reason we are double straining this cocktail is to get rid of any flakey ice that may sit on top of our cocktail from the shake
That’s it! It’s time to enjoy your creation :P
