The Southside.

A simple Stratton cocktail you can make at home.

Entertaining at home over the silly season? Want something fancy to serve up to guests that’ll knock their socks off, but is also deceptively simple and quick to prep? We got ‘chu.

The Southside is super refreshing and perfect as an arrival drink on our hot Brissie evenings.

SOUTHSIDE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

  • 60ml of your choice of gin (a citrus-forward gin (like the Four Pillars Yuzu Gin) will enhance the flavours in this!)

  • 30ml lime juice (preferably always freshly squeezed lime juice)

  • 15ml simple syrup (easily made by mixing 1:1 ratio of hot water and sugar)

  • 4-5 mint leaves, plus more for garnish

 METHOD

  1. Put all ingredients in a shaker with ice cubes

  2. Shake shake shake

  3. Double strain into glasses using a cocktail strainer and a fine strainer (if you don’t have these, just use the finest mesh strainer you have - you want to catch all of the ice, mint and “floaties”)

  4. Garnish with 1 mint leaf on the side of the glass. How? Hold it in half vertically so that the leaf is folded on the stem. With a knife, cut the mint leaf in the middle – no more than 1cm. Unfold the leaf and use the cut to pinch onto the rim of your glass.
